August is the hottest time of the year in Florida, and Vince Tanzi would just as soon sweat it out in his study chair with a few beers. He's had enough of the world after losing his wife, and spending nine months in jail. He's at the bottom of a downward spiral that began when he "retired" from the Indian River County Sheriff's Department in Vero Beach, and began a second career as a P.I., which has been on hold since he got out.
He gets a call from his dead wife's friend, who has been shot at twice. She doesn't want to call the police. He takes the case, and follows her husband through the groves, beaches, golf courses, cities and restaurants of the Sunshine State. In the process he turns up a secret that changes everything.
Vince's dry humor and keen observations propel this mystery-romance across central Florida, through Buddhist temples, abandoned factories and hurricanes. For fans of mysteries with wit, and an edge.

I have really gotten tired of books in the Florida mystery genre about super-competent ex-military types. Vinnie Tanzi is a very flawed ex-cop who is only really good at picking locks, making sardonic comments and doing what he thinks is right. I am reminded of DeMIlle's John Corey. Nicely written and edited.. Going for the next one now.Product details

Tanzi Heat Vince Tanzi Book 1 edition by CI Dennis Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
I bought this book strictly because it is set in Florida, in many places that I know well. It was a quick read,Mitch enough twists to keep it interesting, though the ending went a bit flat for my taste. In some ways it is reminiscent of the John D. MacDonald books, and his series character Travis McGee. The characters are not as thoroughly drawn as in those books, where even minor characters stay in your memory for decades. However, that may simply be because this is he first in Vince Tanzi series. I will be trying one more of the series, so I have a more knowledgeable reaction.
An ex-cop turned PI takes on a case that makes him question his own motives and actually want to make improvements in himself. I'm paraphrasing because I don't want to leave a spoiler, but that's a big part of the theme here. Within the details is a client that hires him, fires him, hires him again, and fires him again, and he wants very much to know what the heck is wrong with her. There's plenty of emotion given the hard-case male protagonist, and plenty of action portrayed well enough to satisfy my male friends and still not make me flinch through paragraphs. The location is interesting (and realistic; I've been there and recognized it), and the flow is perfect for the story being told.
A great start to this series which takes the reader to warmer climates and weaves and integrate tale. Vince Tanzi is a retired cop who is down on his luck until a case he can’t refuse comes calling and takes him all over central Florida. The plot moves at a good clip and while it doesn’t keep you guessing, it has enough twists and turns a long with a bunch of action to keep the reader engaged. The characters are interesting and the writing is great. I can’t wait to move on in the series!
A fun, fast read with lots of great plot twists. The campy writing style is a hoot, for example, describing an office "It was like a set for a low-budget porn movie, and everything looked as fake as the orgasms". If you like Janet Evonavich and Carl Hiaasen, then you'll like this. Hopefully more will follow, I'm hooked!
This was one of those bargain books that I download from . Some I like, others not so much. I had just stopped reading 2 of them and started this book. Dang, I got right into it and liked it a lot. One of those books you just want to pick up and read and enjoy. Will definitely pick up another Tanzi novel.
Vince Tanzi, retired from River County Sheriff's Dept.. Just realizes after 9 months, from prison for the killing of his wife. There was a problem with the two bullets, one from his gun & another that didn't match. He came home really drunk, at the top of their stairs he thought there was an intruder, fell down the stairs & was unconscious.
It's a while after being released where he feels he needs to stop drinking to start living his life.
He decides to be a PI again, after getting a call from Barbara Butler who used to know his wife. She has recently been shot at twice, but doesn't want the police involved. He takes the case & starts investigating. He doesn't know how involved the case really is, especially involving her husband D.B. hunter.
I don't want to give more information. There is so much action, high speed chases, some could be deadly, possible love. And things that you would never think could be real & happening, but do.
Enjoy this fast paced book.
Vince “Vinny” Tanzi (PI, retired Indian River County Sheriff's Department, Vero Beach), wife had passed away.
Kind of in a life’s downward spiral he decides to become a PI.
His adventures, case work & love life take him across Florida.
I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written PI mystery book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great PI mystery movie, or better yet a mini TV series. It was just OK for me so I will rate it at 4/5 stars.
